For those of you who have recently been to the club or driven past, you would have seen that our fantastic new 3G has now been finished. We have brand new goals and have purchased brushes for regular maintenance and anyone who has seen or used it has nothing but the highest praise for the quality and the way it looks. We celebrated its opening with a highly successful five-a-side tournament for coaches and parents and all who participated had a fun and memorable day. We have also welcomed both men’s and women’s walking football teams and there is nothing more gratifying than to see so many new people enthusiastically using both this 3G and the club’s facilities. After a further, very successful, 5-a-side youth football tournament on the 3G pitches, we are looking forward to providing the opportunity for as many others as possible to use these wonderful facilities and welcome any enquiries. With programmed extensive use moving into the winter evenings, we also hope to open the clubroom to encourage full community participation. There is plenty of daytime availability throughout the year for the 3G to be booked by individuals or clubs/organisations, and evening availability during the weekends. Don’t hesitate to email us on chilcomptonsportsclub@gmail.com or from the bookings page.

At this point, we have to say that none of this would have happened were it not for the enormous generosity of so many individuals who have contributed to the fundraising effort. To date, they have donated an enormous £20,115 and for this, Chilcompton Sports is indebted to them. Equally, there are a small number of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to raise further money and to ensure the project is completed seamlessly.

Alongside this local generosity, we are also the recipients of two large, charitable donations, one of which was from the Bernard Sunley Foundation, set up in 1960 by the property developer Bernard Sunley. This family-run grant-making foundation supports charities in England and Wales working to raise the quality of life and provide greater opportunities for the young, elderly, disabled and disadvantaged. The Foundation has awarded over £136 million in grants since it was established, giving just over £4 million each year to capital projects that importantly deliver real community focus. Not only was the considerable grant we received from the Foundation essential in helping us meet our financial objectives in providing this essential community facility, we must say that, from the beginning, all those with whom we were in contact during the application process could not have been more helpful and amenable and for this, too, we are extremely grateful. More about this foundation can be found on their website, Welcome – Bernard Sunley Foundation

To you all, Chilcompton Sports cannot thank you enough. We are indebted to you.

Tim Curtis, Chairman

From the club and all our teams we thank you for all the help you have been able to give.
