Now approaching two years since completion of our 3G, all those who have used it over these past months have had nothing but praise for it. Equally, it has been a life-saver for all the younger teams to play their matches when inclement weather has forced everyone off the grass. Similarly, the adult teams use it for their training when their matches are called off. As a huge bonus for the club, we have been able to welcome both Men’s and Women’s Walking Football teams, with the Men’s and one of the Women’s teams now affiliated officially with Chilcompton Sports. The pitch is maintained weekly, being kept to an extremely high standard, and we are in the process of replacing the aged floodlights to ensure an optimum playing environment.
Although the 3G is more or less fully booked on weekday evenings, there is plenty of daytime availability throughout the year for it to be booked by individuals, clubs or organisations, and with evening availability during the weekends.
We encourage all enquiries for hire and ask that you don’t hesitate to email us here or from the bookings page here where you can check availability.
At this point, we have to say that none of this would have happened were it not for the enormous generosity of so many individuals who contributed to the fundraising effort. In total, they donated an enormous £20,115 and for this, Chilcompton Sports is indebted to them. Equally, our gratitude goes to a small number of volunteers who worked tirelessly to raise further money and to ensure the project was completed seamlessly.
Alongside this local generosity, we were also the recipients of two large, charitable donations, one of which was from the Bernard Sunley Foundation, set up in 1960 by the property developer Bernard Sunley. This family-run grant-making foundation supports charities in England and Wales working to raise the quality of life and provide greater opportunities for the young, elderly, disabled and disadvantaged. The Foundation has awarded over £136 million in grants since it was established, giving just over £4 million each year to capital projects that importantly deliver real community focus. Not only was the considerable grant we received from the Foundation essential in helping us meet our financial objectives in providing this essential community facility, we must say that, from the beginning, all those with whom we were in contact during the application process could not have been more helpful and amenable and for this, too, we are extremely grateful. More about this foundation can be found on their website, Welcome – Bernard Sunley Foundation.

To you all, Chilcompton Sports cannot thank you enough. We are indebted to you.
